SPECTROPHOBIA
[noun]
(from Latin: spectrum, “ghost”) - a kind of specific phobia involving a morbid fear of mirrors and one’s own reflections. Catoptrophobia (from the word catoptric meaning using a mirror to focus light; from Greek word katoptrikos) is the fear of mirrors. This phobia is distinct from Eisoptrophobia, which is the fear of your own reflection.
Generally, an individual that possesses spectrophobia has been traumatised in an event where they believe they have seen or heard apparitions or ghosts. The individual could also become traumatised by horror films, television shows, or by nightmares. This fear could be the result of a trauma involving mirrors. It could also be the result of the person’s superstitious fear of being watched through the mirror. Movies relating the supernatural world with mirrors could be the cause of this fear in younger children especially.

As an artist, I will never understand why these teeny tiny canvases and these teeny tiny easels exist. Do people actually use these? Who are these people? They’re always stocked so there can’t be that much of a demand for them. Who has a collection of tiny paintings? I imagine they must be easier to store, but still.

maybe it’s for people who design post stamps

Postage stamps in most instances are prints of pre-existing art or photography but now that you say that, I totally want to draw completely unacceptable postage stamps on these.

Doll collectors buy them, for one. I have one and I collect 1/3 scale and 1/4 scale ball jointed dolls :)
I also use it to teep my tablet and cellphone safe and in a place I can see them sometimes.

So for the senior exhibit in art school, the size limits were 4x4 feet. The painting I wanted to enter was 4 feet wide and 6 feet tall, but I figured unless they’re displaying paintings on top of each other, my painting would take up as much space as a 4 foot wide painting. (BECAUSE IT WAS 4 FEET WIDE >_<) The professor in charge of everything even said we could ask for an exception to the rule. So I did. The email I got back was a several paragraph long lecture on how there wasn’t enough space and this and that gallery were already taken and I was a fool for even asking. (EVEN THOUGH SHE TOLD US TO JUST ASK IF WE WANTED TO)So I grabbed one of these little 2x2 inch guys, painted something abstract, and titled it “Adam West”. And that was my senior exhibit.

tl;dr These little canvases occasionally make good “fuck you”s.

That is the best “fuck you” I have ever heard. You inspire me so. 😍
